European Tour 2010 - Introduction

Here are details of our planned European Tour in 2010:

Ferry crossing - Norfolk Line Dover to Dunkerque, one-night transit stop in France en-route to Luxembourg.

3 days (4 nights)in Luxembourg, camping on the outskirts of the city.

Continue to Trier along the Mosel Valley - just over 1 day (2 nights)at Trier.

To Zell further along the Mosel - 3 days (4 nights) there.

3 days (4 nights) in the Hunsruck region between the Mosel and Rhine valleys; possible visit to Cologne.

South along the Rhine valley for 3 days (4 nights) in the area south-west of Heidelberg, visiting Heidelberg and the Weinstrasse.

South again to the Black Forest - spending a week there (8 nights) with the idea of doing lots of walking.

Into Alsace (briefly) and South through France all the way to Provence with a one-night en-route stopover in the Beaujolais; then a week (7 nights) near Mont Ventoux (same place as last year).

East into Northern Italy with a one-night stopover en-route and then 4 days (5 nights) by Lake Garda, with more hill walking, we hope.

East again, passing Venice and Trieste into Slovenia - 2 days (3 nights) on the coast and 2 days (3 nights) at Lake Bled.

North into Austria - 2 days (3 nights) by the Worther See followed by 3 days (4 nights) at Salzburg. Still in Austria, moving on West through the Tyrol, hoping to drive the Grossglockner Road (in the Smart not in the MH!). Possible visits to the Eagle's Nest and some castles.

Continuing North / North West into Bavaria following the Romantischestrasse and stopping off for a visit to Munich.

Dash back to Dunkerque using the autobahns / autoroute for the return ferry and the final drive home. Just over 10 weeks in total.

Same combination as last year - same MH towing same Smart car on same Brian James trailer. Don't promise this year's blog will be as detailed as 2009's (thank goodness for that say some!) but there will be some photos again of course. Any comments or advice relating to our route very welcome. I should say that while this looks like a pretty detailed plan, very little has been pre-booked so our arrangements can be more flexible than the above schedule suggests. We might even end up doing something completely different though I doubt it.
